Electric Toothbrushes & The Benefits Of Using One

Electirc ToothbrushIf you’ve never used an electric toothbrush, you may be wondering what the difference is between a manual brush and an electric one. Electric brushes are a bit more costly up front, but they have many benefits over manual brushes. Once you’ve had an electric brush, it’s difficult to go back to a manual one!

Benefits Of Electric Toothbrushes

Below are a few of the benefits of electric toothbrushes:

  • Correct Pressure – Many people struggle with using the right amount of pressure when brushing. Too little pressure won’t be effective, but too much pressure can weaken the tooth enamel and damage the gums. With an electric toothbrush, the guesswork is taken out of the equation and you’ll get the right amount of pressure each time.
  • Easier On the Wrist – For people who suffer from arthritis or for smaller children with smaller hands, reaching the back molars can be difficult or painful. Using an electric toothbrush can make it easier to reach the back teeth without straining the wrist or fingers.
  • Better Cleaning Power – Lastly, a manual toothbrush allows you to brush around 300 strokes per minute. With an electric brush, you’ll increase this number to around 7,000 strokes per minute! This means an electric brush is much more effective at removing plaque and tartar in the same amount of time.

No matter how you choose to brush your teeth, as long as you’re doing it twice a day for two minutes at a time, it will be an effective part of your oral hygiene routine. Additionally, make sure you’re flossing daily and visiting your dentist every 6 months for a dental checkup and teeth cleaning.
